Dachshund Spring Fiesta in NYC

New York City is full of eccentric festivals celebrating everything from donuts to mermaids, and in this case, dachshunds.  Words can’t describe how much joy this day brings me every spring, when close to one hundred dachshunds and their owners come together in Washington Square Park for the annual Dachshund Spring Fiesta. It’s a no-frills gathering that involves little more than standing around with your dachshund, but it’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face.  You usually spot at least a few dachshunds dressed like hot dogs or biker dudes, and a handful being wheeled around in strollers (my personal favorite).  At around the halfway point of the event the “Dachs Song” lyrics are passed out and Murray Weinstock (who co-wrote the song) breaks out his accordion, signaling the start of the sing-a-long.  This year I decided to bring my camera along and see which dachshund owners looked most like their dachshunds.  Watch the video to see the hilarious results.
