Take a little trip with us to a dreamy forest on the edge of Ithaca’s Buttermilk Falls State Park. This is the home of Firelight Camps, a new glamping destination by Robert and Emma Frisch. The camp has four luxury tents but that number will more than double next season. Upon our arrival, we were led down a short path to Ravine Deluxe #1, a large safari-style tent designed by the talented gals at Gather. Both the tent and the entire property are beautifully minimal with just enough “glamp” details to make you smile, but earthy enough to still feel connected to nature. When you wander up to the lobby tent (with twinkly string lights guiding your way) you will discover a fire circle for nighty homemade Smores, a bocce court, a bar serving complimentary Finger Lakes wine each night, and a nearby bathhouse with a small sauna for a bit of pampering. What’s not to love?
Oh, and can we talk about the breakfast spread? It definitely has Emma Frisch’s stamp on it. She works with Ithaca bakeries and creameries to make sure you’re well fueled before your day of hiking to Buttermilk Falls or wine tasting in the Finger Lakes. That means strong coffee, homemade granola, fresh fruit and gourmet muffins. Beyond breakfast you can take a two-minute walk to the adjacent La Tourelle Hotel and Spa for lunch at the bistro or dinner at Ithaca’s famous John Thomas Steakhouse.
Roughing it has never felt so good.
