I grew up in Long Island and have lived in various parts of New York City since I graduated college. I cannot believe that it has taken me this long to visit Ulster County, New York. The region is just an hour and a half drive or train ride north from New York City but the escape is equal parts rustic solace and blossoming community. You probably know Ulster County as the home of Woodstock, New Paltz and Saugerties (Jimmy Fallon’s hometown!) but there are other towns like Kingston that are experiencing a beautiful Renaissance with artists, hoteliers and restauranteurs all putting down roots. It was a very grounding two-day trip surrounded by nature and passionate artisans who truly love what they do, whether it’s brewing, farming, painting or scaring the s*$t out of you!
